Many years ago, a Vancouver small-product client said, “Do you realize how much money we’re saving just in courier fees by having you on-location doing your work?”
Besides realized savings, other advantages of on-location product photography are many. Some benefits include:
• If an item is flawed, another can easily be brought on set.
• In the case of shopping centre brochures, if an expensive item requires insurance for travel to the studio, the insurance fee is retained, and the shop owner can be on-set while the piece is being photographed.
• Pulled product for the session can be returned same day to the store owner.
• Depending on the client’s organization, the number of products photographed in one day can be extensive. The most Brian has photographed in 8 hours is just under 200 products, including set up time.
An added advantage with on-location small-product photography is that it requires only a small area to work in, which typically can be accommodated within the space of an administration board room, warehouse, or vacant office or retail unit.
